#LULU - a monster tragedyShe is all things. She is nothing. She can be whatever you want her to be. She is easily found. Her name is #LULU and she’s nothing but trouble. She rises from the suburban gutter. Is a “looker”. Is great on Twitter. Becomes #instafamous and celebrity status (whatever that means) is achieved. But there’s a monster behind the hashtag. Shatter the filter. One day it might kill her.
#Lulu is a contemporary adaptation and reclamation of Frank Wedekind’s play from the late 1800s, full of hashtag celebrities and set in the highly produced world of reality TV. It was originally presented as two plays, ‘Earth Spirit’ and ‘Pandoras Box’ and are considered Wedekind’s meditation on the nature of female sexuality and a cautionary tale for any man wishing to control a woman and her identity. |
